Why I’ve been silent

Greetings!  I have been busy the past couple of weeks, which is one of the reasons why I have been neglecting this blog.  On a positive note, I didn’t neglect the challenge.  I just haven’t been recording the progress.  I went to Colorado for a week to visit friends.  I hadn’t been back to Colorado for 4 or 5 years and it was good to be there and to see some very good friends, old friends and new friends.

And this past Saturday I attended a 24 hour marathon for the best picture nominees.  Unfortunately, my group only lasted 6 movies.  I’m disappointed that we weren’t tough enough to power through all of the movies.  However, I will admit that sitting through 6 movies in a row was rough.  Overall it was a good experience and I saw some great movies: Toy Story 3, 127 Hours, The Kids are All Right, True Grit, The Fighter, and Winter’s Bone.  Previously I had seen The Social Network and Inception.  I still need to see Black Swan and The King’s Speech.

While on vacation I finished the novel The House of the Seven Gables.  Up next is another Nathaniel Hawthorne novel, The Scarlet Letter.  I had two long flights to and from Colorado and I read the novel On Stranger Tides.  I read this novel many years ago and I loved it.  The book is about pirates and voodoo.  Before leaving on vacation I heard that the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie would be based on this book.  So I decided to reread the book before seeing the next installment of Pirates in May.  I have to admit that I love this series.  Not only because I have always been fascinated by pirates, but also I love Johnny Depp.  The book, On Stranger Tides is not on my list, but it is a fun read and the perfect type of book to read on a plane.

Now that I am back home and getting back into the routine of work I need to also get back into the groove of exercising and my Spanish lessons.  Yesterday I went for a run for the first time in weeks and oh boy I am out of shape.  On the Spanish front, I did purchase some flashcards to help improve my vocabulary.  Also I need to get back into the groove for posting for my blog and staying motivated.

Lastly, I am planning a trip to London sometime this spring, so I will be able to check this country off of my list, which will bring the grand total of countries visited to 11 out of 192.  I have a feeling this spring and summer will be quite exciting.
