Last night on the train I noticed a young woman reading Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I usually will look at what books people are reading on the train to get ideas for what I should add to my list. I was surprised to see someone else reading Pride and Prejudice. Over the past two years I have seen people reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on the train but not the original work. Now for the fans of the Zombie version I am not insulting this work. In fact I have read it and I enjoyed it immensely. At first I wasn’t sure of it since I can sometimes be too much of a purist. However, it was quite amusing picturing Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy fighting off the Zombie invasion of England.
But I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen someone read the original work. Lately many of my fellow t riders have been reading the Stieg Larsson trilogy about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Once again I am not insulting these works either since I have read the first two installments of the trilogy. This reminds me I should pick up the third book.
Nevertheless it warmed my heart to see that Austen still has loyal readers in today’s world.
