It has been quite some time since I’ve read a novel that was so hard to put down. Not only is the story captivating with many twists and turns but the writing and character development is wonderful. All I can say is bravo. It has been raining a lot in Boston this week and I was tempted on more than one occasion to call out sick, stay in bed, listen to the rain, and read the book. I didn’t of course. But I really wanted to. If you haven’t read this work, I would highly recommend it. Now I need to decide which novel to tackle next.
Memoirs of a Geisha

“Memoirs of a Geisha” was pretty good. I liked the way that Golden was able to bring to life the culture of the geisha, while at the same time following how that culture was affected by war and how the traditions declined.
I totally agree. His novel is vivid and sheds light on a culture that I wasn’t very familiar with.
I also thought it was interesting that Golden is an American. He had to start from scratch when learning about Japanese culture.
I don’t know about you, but even though Golden is an American, it didn’t seem to me like an American wrote the story. Of course, I don’t know much about the culture, but it seemed authentic.
