Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!
This week I have two teasers. One from the novel I’m reading and one from the nonfiction work I’m reading. Enjoy!
“Not encouraging, I own,” said Fairway, ” ‘Get out of my sight, you slack-twisted, slim-looking maphrotight fool,’ is rather a hard way of saying No. But even that might be overcome by time and patience, so as to let a few grey hairs show themselves in the hussy’s head.”
pg. 32, The Return of the Native, by Thomas Hardy
“The real saga of God, the Founding Fathers, and the making of a nation is a tale that opens with swashbuckling adventurers searching for gold in Virginia and sturdy but strict Puritans trying to create a Christian commonwealth in New England. The drama is America’s drama, from George Washington to Ronald Reagan, from the Civil War to civil rights.”
pg. 6, American Gospel: God, The Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, by Jon Meacham
Hahaha funny curse
I found it pretty funny!

I’m intrigued by “American Gospel” – it sounds like an interesting read. Thanks for the teaser!
I’m only 40 pages into it, but I’m finding it to be a great read. Informative, but not boring!
Haha. Great teasers! Thanks!
Both are great teasers. The first one is quite amusing and the second one is a great way to really captivate a reader in a non-fiction book.
Thanks Crystal! The non-fiction is entertaining which I’m happy about since sometimes they can be a bit dry.
Both sound really interesting – especially the non-fiction work. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Violette. Swashbucklers sound fun!
Love that first one! I still have Thomas Hardy on my long TBR list. Thanks for stopping by mine.
He’s been on my list forever. I’m finally getting to it and I’m surprised by his sense of humor.

Hi Claire! Happy reading to you as well!
That first one made me laugh!
Me too! What a slam.
I normally don’t read non-fiction (because my reality is enough) but the tone of the Founding Fathers book sounds like I could make it through. And the first book totally sounds like my kind of read. 🙂
Here’s mine: https://50yearproject.wordpress.com/2011/08/23/teaser-tuesday-aug-23/
Your reality is enough. That’s funny!
Very interesting teasers!! Thank you for stopping by my blog!

P.S. How many countries out of 192 have you seen so far?
inga from http://www.ingasilbergbooks.com
Hi Inga. Thanks for visiting. I’ve been to ten countries so far. Not very many I know, but soon I am moving from Boston to London and I am hoping to visit as many European countries I can while living in London. The goal is high, but why not. I love a good challenge!
Haha, I love that first teaser.
And swashbuckling is great. I love reading about history!
Thanks Tara. I also love reading history!
I have not heard of this meme yet. But looks really interesting. perhaps we’d give it a whirl in the next coming months. Cute teasers as well!
I am new to this meme, but I enjoy it. It is fun to read the teasers from so many different kinds of books. I hope you can participate.
