Safe and Sound

I am happy to report that I arrived in London last week.  And more importantly, last Friday, Miles and Atticus successfully traveled from Boston to London.  The poor guys were held up at customs for an extra four hours which made us extremely anxious.  At least while they were out of their carriers and  could eat, drink, and go to the bathroom.

We laughed when we saw their carriers.  They had more paperwork than we did.

Unfortunately due to high winds at sea, our sea shipment has been delayed.  This means that I will have another week on the air mattress, for a total of five weeks.  I was hoping that the better half would not have to sleep on the air mattress.  It is easier for me to have a bad night of sleep since I don’t have to get up and go to work.  The better half does not have this luxury.

We did hear that the ship has finally arrived in port, which is great news.  In Boston I still had a chair.  It was an old chair that wasn’t comfortable and needed to be thrown out.  But on the London side, we only have an air mattress and no furniture.  We found a plastic tub that a previous tenant left behind in the laundry room and on the first day we tried to make do with sitting on this and one of the pet carriers. The next day we purchased a picnic cooler that can also be used as a chair.  However, these items are not that comfortable.

In addition, the heat isn’t on in the apartment and sleeping on the floor with no pillows, comforter, or blankets…well I have caught my first cold in London.  On the bright side, there are about seven pubs within walking distance from our apartment.

I know during most moves there are complications.  Moving is no fun.  This is my first international move.  Part of me is entertained by all the complications.  I’ve never had to care about high winds at sea.  Another part of me is like, “oh geez, what will happen next?”

When I put all the difficulities aside and think about the good stuff I am thrilled.  My new apartment is awesome.  I didn’t get a chance to see it before I moved here.  The new neighborhood is fantastic.  Both of us are excited to get settled into our place so we can start getting out to see our new city.  I still don’t have internet at home.  Once I get that set up I will catch up on email and blogs.  I hope all of you are well.

So glad it’s all going smoothly! It may be terribly empty right now, but in a few months you may be wondering where all the room got to. 🙂 Air matresses are never very comfortable. Hoping the two furry critters are also settling in nicely?

    • TBM says:

Thanks! I keep reminding myself that at least I have an air mattress. Sleeping on a hardwood floor would be much worse. I’m surprised by how quickly the boys are settling in. They rebounded nicely, which is a huge relief.

  2. deslily says:

wow and congrats on the safe trip!! I thought animals had to be quarentined for a month??? I am happy they didn’t and they are home with you!

    • TBM says:

Thanks! The boys had to wait six months before entering the UK. However, now you can have them at home and not in a facility. And I am extremely happy that they are with me.

  3. Robin says:

So glad to hear you all arrived safe and sound. Hope things start to go smoothly and fall into place for you very soon. 🙂

Yea! (or whatever the British equivalent is – jolly good?) So happy to hear you are there and excited to be there. Sorry you’re sick, but nothing a few hot toddies won’t help, I’m sure.I hope your furnitue arrives soon so you can start feathering your new nest.

    • TBM says:

Hot toddies…why didn’t I think of that sooner?! Good thing the liquor store is right down the street. Thanks for the tip! Off to the store.

I was just thinking about you and hoping that you were ok! I’m sorry to hear about your difficulties but I’m happy that you all arrived at your destination safe and sound. I hope things go more smoothly for you so you can get settled. 🙂

  6. I am so excited for all four of you! Miles and Atticus seem content and happy. And what a wonderful adventure you are ready to embark on. Once your cold is done, then it should be smooth sailing. Can’t wait to get pictures and info.

    • TBM says:

Thanks. You are so sweet. This has been an adventure for sure. Hopefully I will get up and running soon and I can catch up on blogs and share some experiences.

Thanks Caroline! I’m so happy about my apartment and location. I hope all is going well on your end and hopefully I can get online on a regular basis and get caught up with blogs.

I am so glad to hear you again dear TBM, yes, right now things don’t seem very comfortable but in days everything will be fine. Not easy to move from one to other. I wish you both everything to go well. I loved your lovely little friends, they should be tired because of this voyage. Bless them all. When you have time, you can visit my last post, maybe you don’t have time but I think whenever you can find time, I would like to hear about yourself too and also to share your 15 list too.

Oh your pets! Glad all went well, I’m terrified of flying my boys. :-/ And wow on the international move and all those issues I’d never considered. Hang in there. Good thing you have those seven pubs. 🙂 (is that enough??)

    • TBM says:

I was a nervous wreck the entire time our boys were traveling. It was a huge relief to see them. Seven pubs…only time will tell if it is enough. But the other day I went down a different street and there were more pubs!

  10. Carol says:

Glad to hear you and your little friends made it safe and sound.

  11. Melissa says:

Happy to hear you all made it there alright. Just remember years from now, you look back fondly at sleeping on air mattress days and picnic coolers-at least I hope so =) Enjoy pub life!

    • TBM says:

LOL…it will be a long time until I look back fondly on the air mattress. But I know I will at some point. Pub life rocks! I hope all is well!

  12. celawerd says:

Despite the minor inconveniences, I am still super jealous!

  13. Glad to know that all of you (both two and four legged) reached London safe and sound.
Hope you’ll soon settle in splendidly on your new home.

Sorry about the whole sleeping on the air mattress thing though.

    • TBM says:

Hello! I am looking forward to getting settled into our home! And I’ll do my best to forget about the air mattress. As soon as I can stand up completely straight again.

glad to hear you and the furry kiddies all arrived safely

  15. Carl V. says:

Although your puppy looks like he’s been through it all, I am glad you all arrived safe and sound and hope your belongings join you soon. Your dog is a real cutie, I may just have to come swipe him. 🙂

    • TBM says:

Thanks Carl. I think Miles is adorable as well. If you love to play fetch and go for walks, he’ll love you. He’s been helping us explore our new neighborhood.

  16. IsobelandCat says:

So glad to hear you are here, and so are the pets.
How about joining Freecycle for some bits and pieces before your stuff reaches you? You can always pass it on when you have your own belongings.
    Welcome to London!!

  17. T.F.Walsh says:

So good to hear you all arrived safely… I would worry so much about my cats if they have to travel on a plane:)

    • TBM says:

Traveling with pets is stressful. They seem to be settling into the new place and I’m happy to have the family back together. Soon we will begin exploring!

  18. Saisri says:

    • TBM says:

Thanks Saisri! I am having fun setting up the new place. I hope all is well on your end and I look forward to reconnecting with all the blogs I follow.

  19. Skye says:

Glad you’re safe! Soon you’ll have your local hangout spots and markets to get fresh fruit…the pub owners will call you “regulars” and you’ll get some on the house. It’ll be cool. Lol

  20. hugmamma says:

We were in London…well, Heathrow Airport…for a few hours…twice…recently. We were enroute to and from Southampton where we wereon board the Queen Mary II for a cruise through France and the UK. The fact that you’re living in such a gorgeous area of the world…is so amazing.

    have the time of your life…while you’re young… 😉

  21. EvilPoet says:

Just to let you know – I’ve got to take some time off (see Housekeeping Notes on my blog). I’ll still be here to read and rate posts but for the most part I’ll be in the background. In other words – here but not here. Take care – see you soon! 🙂
