I would like to take a moment and say thank you to WordPress and Akismet. I know the last ten days couldn’t have been fun. It wasn’t for me. When I first noticed that most if not all of my comments were sent to spam I was irate. And then I tried to contact WordPress and all I got was silence. Slowly other bloggers started to communicate. WordPress listened and let us know to email Akismet directly. Again, the silence was deafening.
Then the scope of the problem became clear. This was affecting not just a few bloggers, but a lot. I’m not sure about the actual number. Akismet had to deal with the issue case by case. Sounds like an awful few days at the office. But they did get back to me eventually and all of a sudden I no longer had problems commenting.
I would have preferred more communication in the beginning, but I do appreciate their efforts and as far as I know, it has been resolved. Thank goodness. I look forward to catching up with many of you over the next week.
One good thing about the situation was I met several bloggers who were kind and helpful. Calmgrove who I communicated with during this ordeal asked me if I would join him in thanking WordPress and Akismet. I happily agreed. Please hop over to his blog to read his eloquent thank you.
it is nice when the silence is broken isn’t it? good for you for being so gracious,
I think many of us appreciate that they actually fixed it. For a day or two I didn’t think they would.
that would be uber frustrating–glad you are back–though I did save you a few times you came through other times
Thanks for saving me, dude. Much appreciated. I may need you later to get me home from the pub safely.
gettting my plane ticket now
Cool! See you soon. And you get free drinks on international flights on most airlines.
And I say thank YOU for getting them to fix it!
many of us worked together and let our voices be heard. It helps when you have support.
I also want to add my thank you!! It was frustrating but they did help in the end and I am really grateful for being able to communicate with everybody again!
It was a difficult few days for many of us, but they did come through. I imagine behind the scenes many workers were feverishly trying to solve the problem. At least that’s how I like to picture it.
I have come to realize that being patient like you were is the only way to be in the technological world we live in. I can’t even imagine anymore what it would be like without email, blogging, and the internet in general because they have changed my life and allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. However, technology is definitely fallible, and although I don’t welcome crashes, downtimes, viruses, and even commenting problems like you had, they are inevitable, and all we can do is ask for help and be patient because these techies do not have easy jobs! Good for you for saying thank you :).
I agree completely. And it’s always good to remember that when things like this happen we are not alone. It affects a lot of people so patience is needed. It’s not good to shout, “Hey it’s all about me.” I am glad that it’s over. Very glad! And I’m happy that so many bloggers pulled together to help.
Kudos to you for persevering. 🙂
Thanks, but I didn’t have a choice. Glad it’s fixed and now we can move on.
Most of the time spam is spam but from time to time other comments do sneak into that category and have to be reclaimed. I’m amazed at how much useless stuff is sent.
I don’t actually get the real purpose of spam comments. So useless, confusing, and annoying. Sometimes they are funny.
Great to hear it’s sorted…
it is a relief
Good to know you are now able to do what blogging is all about – communicate with others.
That was the frustrating part, the spam incident took the fun out of it.
I’m glad your problems have been solved.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Me too, Francine!
Gad everything is ok now…!!! I hate when these things go wrong, because I feel absolutely unable to do anything on this field!!!
I’m not the most technical person so I was relieve they were able to solve the problem and I didn’t have to think about codes and such.
Oh!!!! You changed your gravatar!!!! Nice to meet you! 🙂
Problem solved + Friday = Time for a beer at a pub!
will meet you there!
🙂 … and cheers to your comment at AFA made it through!
I love your attitude of gratitude, TBM! I am happy for you and all the other bloggers who had the “spam issue”. Have a fabulous Friday:-)
Thanks. You too!
Gracious post, much impressed. And thanks for the link/mention!
I’ve sent an email to the Akismet guy who contacted me (once) to reiterate our appreciation but haven’t had any response. Possibly may never, but at least gratitude was expressed!
Thanks for sending the email. Hopefully he saw it and knows we appreciate the hard work.
Yay! Glad it’s working now!
Me too! And I hope nothing gets broken any time soon.
Glad it’s all sorted – how gracious you are too!
I know I like to hear thanks when I worked hard.
Second that yay! I think your efforts saved a lot of us from this problem and I am grateful.
At least I can help those if it happens. of course, I hope it doesn’t happen to others. It’s a pain!
Thank you for shedding a little light, TBM. First day back today and passing through my Dashboard I spotted 86 Spam! You were among them, though many were the usual culprits. I hadn’t even realised there was a glitch. 🙂
86 spam and you looked through all of it. You are a trooper! Welcome back!
Glad to hear everything got sorted out. You’ve been a lot more gracious than I would have been in your position. A lesson for all of us.
Oh I wasn’t always patient, but I try to be. Human nature though can be powerful.
That is so nice of you.
I would like to say thank you also to WordPress and Akismet for a job well done 🙂
I don’t think they hear thank you enough. Just grumbling. Thanks for helping us tell them we do appreciate their hard work.
I’ve noticed McAfee labels all my blog-related email and newsletters as spam now.
Uh oh. I hope that can be resolved for you.
Glad to know that the problem is fixed, TBM. It must have been a tough ten days for everyone.
I think many of us forget how difficult it can be for those behind the scenes.
we found you all over the place-email spam, blog spam and couldn’t respond to your comments. but now all is well. you’re back and we’re happy.
Sorry for all the trouble. And it’s good to be back. Thanks!
Glad it’s working again, sorry about the late comment I’ve been busy lately. Hopefully WordPress has e-mailed me with good news.
I hope so. sorry to hear you are still having issues.
Thanks, my issue has been resolved as my comments all seem to be working.
That’s great news!
Thanks, glad it’s been resolved for both of us now.
I am so glad that everything finally work out for you 🙂
I can imagine how busy they are (the akismet people) . I still have legitimate comments on my akismet, most are in my turtle’s blog.
Ps. I like your new avatar 🙂
Thanks, Novroz. I don’t envy computer people when systems go down or act funny. People get mad quickly. I tried to be patient, but it was frustrating.
so glad it is all sorted now…these last few days I have been getting such a huge amount of spam…mind boggling huge…and luckily it has all gone in the spam box
I haven’t seen much spam lately. Unfortunately a few of my blogging buddies have been in there. Grrr!
