Teaser Tuesday (August 13)

tteTeaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read

Open to a random page

Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Here’s mine for the week:

A short silence followed. Each sister looked anxious; for each felt the best claim to Agatha, and was hoping to have it pressed on her by the rest.

Pg. 133, Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

About TBM

TB Markinson is an American who's recently returned to the US after a seven-year stint in the UK and Ireland. When she isn't writing, she's traveling the world, watching sports on the telly, visiting pubs in New England, or reading. Not necessarily in that order. Her novels have hit Amazon bestseller lists for lesbian fiction and lesbian romance. She cohosts the Lesbians Who Write Podcast (lesbianswhowrite.com) with Clare Lydon. TB also runs I Heart Lesfic (iheartlesfic.com), a place for authors and fans of lesfic to come together to celebrate lesbian fiction.

Yup, as soon as I read this I recognized Jane Austen’s writing style, which I hate. I tried reading “Pride and Prejudice” but could not get into it at all. Here’s ours: Here’s our four today: http://www.ourstack.blogspot.com/2013/08/tuesday-teasers-four-for-you.html

  2. If you don’t take it, I’m going to throw it away,” Alex cheerfully retorted. “I don’t want to know what time it is.”
pg.7, Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer

    • TBM says:

I haven’t read anything by Krakauer. Would you recommend him?

      • He is an interesting person. If you strictly love dictionary the classics, he probably isn’t for you. He primarily writes about the outdoors and climbing. He incorporated real life events into a novelised style approach. I first saw him in a TV show called Iconoclasts with Sean Penn. They worked together in making the motion picture Into the Wild. He has been nominated for a pulitzer prize in non fiction writing.

      • Sorry should say, if you strictly love fiction and the classics, he probably isn’t for you. Don’t you just love auto correct on mobiles !

      • TBM says:

I’m finding the auto correct on my Kindle is quite humorous and I’m struggling to figure out some of my notes on books I’ve read. Back to the author. I do love non-fiction as well. I saw the movie Into the Wild years ago and enjoyed it. I should pick up some of his books and give it a go. Thanks!

Nice quote, TBM. Hope you are enjoying ‘Mansfield Park’. Will look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Happy reading!
