Street Snaps

My buddy at Lady of the Cakes has a feature on her blog called street snaps. It’s pretty simple: take photos of people when you’re out and about and link it to her weekly post. I said I would try to participate when I felt safe enough to snap a photo without getting punched in the nose. A few weeks ago I exited the Wimbledon Tube stop and saw this gentleman. Not sure how to describe his outfit. What caption would you give it? Don’t forget to look at the shoes and socks.

About TBM

TB Markinson is an American who's recently returned to the US after a seven-year stint in the UK and Ireland. When she isn't writing, she's traveling the world, watching sports on the telly, visiting pubs in New England, or reading. Not necessarily in that order. Her novels have hit Amazon bestseller lists for lesbian fiction and lesbian romance. She cohosts the Lesbians Who Write Podcast (lesbianswhowrite.com) with Clare Lydon. TB also runs I Heart Lesfic (iheartlesfic.com), a place for authors and fans of lesfic to come together to celebrate lesbian fiction.

This is amazing…. Thanks and Love, nia

  2. OMG, is he half leprechaun???
It’s the shoes and the socks… the top half I can cope with. I like men in pink tops 😉

  3. Anna says:

Oh dear. Ooooooh dear….. Well, we gotta give him points for fearlessness?

  4. free spirit I would say…and comfortable in who he is…
and got your attention…maybe that’s it!

  5. Caroline says:

    Lol. If he knew . . .

  6. Lynda says:

    I love his shoes! 😉
They remind me of something I learned in my History of Fashion studies…

QUOTE: ” Edward III (1312–1377), who ruled England from 1327 to 1377, even made a law that limited shoe length based on social class: common people could only wear a six-inch toe, while gentlemen could wear a fifteen-inch toe, and nobility even longer. However, laws can seldom defeat a popular fashion fad, and the extremely long-toed crackowes remained in style until 1410. The shoes then became slightly more conservative, but long, pointed toes remained fashionable for wealthy young men into the 1480s.”

15-inch toes! I would trip over my feet every time I walked. Did they have people carry them so they didn’t look silly? Thanks for the information. I love it. I have noticed that men’s shoes in London are longer than in the States. Must be a holdover … or another statement 😉

  7. THere are High Elves and Wood Elves but who knew there were Football Elves?

  8. Vishy says:

Interesting photo, TBM! His shoes are definitely interesting 🙂

  9. Agh, your face going through the net with people commenting on you.. This can be quite humiliating.. Maybe next time not get the face. Afterall it’s the outfit that gets all the attention! 🙂

Such a fun idea! “I said I would try to participate when I felt safe enough to snap a photo without getting punched in the nose” <– that gave me a laugh! I agree, there's so many things to take pictures of but sometimes it's just hard to read the situation and tell if it's ok to take a picture or not. I'd like to improve myself in this field as the Netherlands has so many funny people to photograph!

  11. Robin says:

Great catch! It’s as if he’s wearing two different looks.

  12. ilargia64 says:

You could send it to her series “pink everywhere” 🙂
Incredible…He is handsome, but there is something strange about his shoes and that pink sweeter…(…)

  13. “My mommy wanted to dress me today, but I insisted on picking out my own outfit. I think it’s fabulous, don’t you?”

  14. You should get yourself one of those nifty James Bond cameras that fit inside the head of a pen or something like that. Then no one will see you taking a photo.

  15. pattisj says:

I’m thinking not all his luggage arrived. However, my first thought was, we know Santa goes to a beach in the off-season–the elves must go to Wimbledon.

  16. poppytump says:

    He looks nervous .

  17. Looking smart but sporty, maybe he just got out the wrong side of the best this morning!

  18. Oh he’s fab! Kind of a reverse example of someone who wears a suit to work but swaps their heels for sports shoes to walk to and from the station…he swapped the suit for sports wear 🙂

  19. I thought he looked pretty normal with the athletic dress until I got to the green socks and strange shoes! I have a hard time snapping people I don’t know, even in stores I usually ask permission.

    • TBM says:

it is odd snapping photos of people. Some tourists are so brazen here. I just pretended to make a phone call and snapped it. Not very honest 😉

  20. Novroz says:

Brave man! I enjoyed seeing anyone who is brave enough to look different in public

  21. adinparadise says:

So weird, but what’s normal these days? 😀

  22. Pink top and green socks ..pixie and fairy combo?

  23. Rorybore says:

    the outfit: Just.Can’t.
but I am dying to ask him where his Lucky Charms are. 😉

  24. Fergiemoto says:

Hmmm, interesting. I don’t know what to say. I’m usually not comfortable taking photos of people on the streets either. Maybe someday.

  25. Jo Bryant says:

this is what I love about street photography
