A Wonderful Four Days

We recently realized that The Better Half had some vacation days to use or they would be lost. Of course I instructed TBH to not be a fool and use them. Currently we are doing our best to save money so we opted to stay at home. We watched movies, TV shows, sampled a few new pubs (I know we spent money doing this, but it was worth it), went on runs, slept in, ate a lot of junk food, and relaxed. It was amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel. But I also love a good staycation. The weather wasn’t all that great, which made our decision even better. Even the boys had a blast. Now I’m trying my best to get caught up. I even got up at five this morning to get a head start. It was worth it though. I feel wonderful after four days of nothing.

Att enjoyed being outside, even though it was on the chilly side.

Miles went to a pub with us. There was a guy at the bar who liked Miles and you can see Miles liked him and wanted him to come back to pet him.

Miles was so excited be at the pub with us he couldn't stop smiling or hold still.

  1. Att did not want to come to the pub with you…?

  2. Beth Ann says:

Oh Miles just loved the pub, didn’t he? I can tell from that sideways smile on his face. Yay for staycations!!! Just what you need now and then!

    • TBM says:

Miles was so giddy. I’m glad I wasn’t the one who had to hold onto him. it was a wonderful four days. both of us have been working so much lately it was nice to have time together and no arguments about finding our way around a strange city. Both of us are rubbish at reading maps. We always go the wrong way!

  3. IsobelandCat says:

    Ah bless.
Glad you had a good time. I expect you are all enjoying being outside today. Isn’t it glorious?

    • TBM says:

It was a chilly morning at the park with Miles, but our afternoon stroll was much better. But I’ve been locked up the rest of the day doing work. I bet MasterB is loving it.

  4. Vishy says:

Glad that you enjoyed the staycation, TBM! Love the pictures of Atticus and Miles πŸ™‚

  5. Rorybore says:

We are in the middle of redecorating our children’s rooms and after the paint fumes have cleared….I am planning on a staycation myself. A pub might just appear at some point; or at least some wine by the fire.
    Miles is adorable.

  6. Lucky Miles! Lucky TBM and TBH!! Staycations can be very relaxing. I love them!

  7. Aww, Miles is so cute! I didn’t know pets are allowed in pubs in England. That’s nice.
Glad to see you enjoyed the holiday.

    • TBM says:

Most pubs allow dogs, which was a change for us since in the States, dogs are not welcome in any place that serves food. Miles loves going, but we don’t take him all the time since he can be a handful.

  8. Welcome back from the living room to your computer. I am sure your critters basked in the added attention.

    • TBM says:

They did. I think they are in shock that it’s back to work.

      • Then it’s just back to weekend pub crawls for Miles? Is your cat named Att because you’re paid an endorsement for product placement from AT&T? If I ever get a dog again I suppose I would consider naming him or her Verizon Wireless if they foot the food and vet bills.

      • TBM says:

Yep, Miles will have to wait for the weekends for pub visits. He’s outraged! One of the best parts of moving to London was getting rid of AT&T–I don’t know how many dropped calls I suffered through. Verizon is a cute name–kinda and if it pays the bills, why not. My boys eat a ton so that would be a nice benefit. Att is actually Atticus Finch, but I’m lazy so I write Att. I feel bad just writing At and take the time to add another T. When he’s in trouble, he gets the full Atticus Finch!

  9. restlessjo says:

A change in routine is always good, but oh dear me, the catching up πŸ™‚ Glad you enjoyed it.

  10. You two really had the right idea! Our pups love the pub too…they’re not stupid our liitle ones are they?!

  11. nrlymrtl says:

Miles made me laugh out loud this morning. He is so cute with those excited, bugged out eyes.

Sorry I have been away from the blogosphere for…..months. Career change.

  12. Caroline says:

Miles really loved his trip to the pub. Did sample some beer? πŸ˜‰

  13. I love to travel too, but it can be exhausting. You are indeed a good partner for not letting TBH lose the vacay time!

  14. Letizia says:

I love the photos of Miles in the pub. It reminds me of bringing my dog with me everywhere when I lived in Paris.

  15. I’m not a big fan of traveling, so your staycation sounds awesome to me! And aww, Miles looks so happy at that pub…

  16. The Guat says:

Four days of nothing sounds AWESOME. I dream of four hours of nothing πŸ™‚ But I did get a chance to escape this weekend and it wasn’t to the CVS. And that picture of Miles at the pub…had no idea he could go with you.

    • TBM says:

Haven’t seen a CVS in years now. England is much more dog friendly than the States, but I’ve heard that it isn’t as dog friendly as it once was.

  17. Melissa says:

Staycations can be so fun, especially if you have been working hard. It let’s you see your home and town in a new way. It’s so cool Miles got to go with you to a Pub, be careful he might insist you take him from now on. Hmm…that can add another dimension to the Miles & Atticus movie review idea, Miles can have his own Pub Column πŸ˜‰

  18. bocafrau says:

I love a good staycation but it would be a lot more fun if the kids were off somewhere else – because with them home all I do is clean up after them and do their bidding. πŸ™‚

  19. Staycations rock!! Glad you had fun :).

  20. Sometimes staycations are the best vacations!

  21. sounds like a perfect way to spend four days

  22. pattisj says:

I can’t imagine four days of doing what you called “nothing.” I really should give that a try sometime.

  23. Novroz says:

I would love to have a staycation too…been so busy lately.

The good thing about being a dog is that the dog gets to go out πŸ˜‰ and the cat stays

    • TBM says:

I hope life slows down for you soon. The cat does get angry that he doesn’t get as much outdoor time. However, we live close to a busy road. Att does have a small garden he enjoys.

  24. Your furbabies are so cute:-)

  25. Staycations are the best! So happy for you both that you had this mini one. We are going to be having two in a row as we are taking off this Thurs. and Fri to celebrate my birthday and then next week we are off Thurs. and Fri. for Thanksgiving. I’m looking forward to two 4-day weekends in a row. There will be putting up Christmas decorations, reading, watching movies and no doubt eating lots of good food with family and friends. And after reading your latest pub post, I’m hungry for simple, yummy sandwiches.

    • TBM says:

Thanksgiving and sandwiches–can’t go wrong with that! Two 4-day weekends. That sounds marvelous. And Happy Birthday! I may have a Christmas movie marathon soon. I need to track down a few of my faves. Somehow I lost my copy of A Christmas Story and Charlie Brown. Have a great holiday season Carl. I bet your daughter is excited. The first holiday season after you get married is just so special.

      • Yes, they are enjoying all of their firsts as a young married couple.

I too am looking forward to some overdosing on Christmas movies. I get so excited about the season. Just wonderful!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. We are having one of my favorites, giant smoked turkey legs, for my birthday dinner. Cannot wait, yum!!!!

      • TBM says:

Oh I do miss having a giant turkey leg. I can’t remember what event in Colorado always had them, but when I went, I made a beeline for that stall.

A young married couple–how fun to be young and in love. I wish them the best. Enjoy the season!

  26. Fergiemoto says:

Sometimes I find that a staycation is the best kind of vacation, especially if your life is always on the go. Glad you got a respite! And how fun to be able to take Miles to a pub!!
