Tattersalls Tavern

20131124_142051_LLS (1)I’ve tried going to this pub in Knightsbridge in the past but each time it was packed.  The location of Tattersalls Tavern is probably the main reason—it’s near Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Last December, we were early meeting a friend near there, so I decided to try my luck. We walked in and there weren’t any tables available. However, we only had thirty minutes to kill so we decided to order a beer and stand at the bar.

Luckily a table for two opened. I whisked The Better Half right over and sat down. Then as luck would have it, two older women walked in and they were seeking a table. I guessed they were in their eighties. The Better Half and I exchanged a look and then we gave up our table.

Back at the bar I noticed that the women both ordered gin and tonics. I had to smile. I hope when I’m eighty I still go to the pub and enjoy a drink.

Our friend met us at the pub and we stayed for another drink. Even though this pub is packed every time I’ve been it isn’t overly special. The staff is typical for an English pub. My beer, Pilsner Urquell, was nice and cold. The atmosphere was festive. It’s a decent pub and if you go, good luck getting a seat. I give it three out of five stars.

I’m pretty excited today since two of our friends are visiting. We’re meeting up later today and I wonder what kind of trouble, er I mean fun, we’ll get into. Have a great weekend! I’ll be back on Monday or Tuesday. It all depends on how many pubs we discover.

Looks a nice if somewhat busy watering hole TBM .
    Tuesday it’ll be then I guess 😉

  2. The usual question, what about the food menu? There looked to be a daily specials in the photo, but I couldn’t read what it was. Can’t say I am a fan of busy pubs. I would prob run a mile to avoid one near Harvey Nichs and Harrods!

  3. Ah, how sweet of you to give up your table for the elderly ladies. I love that!

Hope you have an amazing weekend with your friends. You deserve some time off!

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

  4. I have no doubt in my mind that you will still be visiting the pubs at 80 :).

And I am sure someone will give up their seat for you.
The atmosphere in the pub looks so typically English that I am sure many tourists visit there as well.

    • TBM says:

Yes there were loads of tourists. This is the part of town that most tourists visit and it was a cold day so I can’t blame them for hopping into the pub to warm up.

  6. I know why it was packed TB. It’s not the surrounding stores, but it’s probably the only pub in London town that serves COLD beer. I’d sure go there for that!

  7. Did they have blue rinses??

  8. So lovely of you to give up your seats!

    • TBM says:

I’m surprised more people don’t. I hate seeing people on the tube not giving up their seats for older passengers, pregnant women, parents holding kids and so many others. I tend to stand a lot 🙂

I remember my grandmother, in her late 70’s, at my wedding sitting with a gin and tonic. She had people all around her paying their respects and doting on her. I rather thought of her as the Queen Mom in those moments – LOL. Although I have no idea how accurate a picture that might be.
Have good times with your friends! And remember: the trouble with trouble is, it often starts out as fun. 😉

  10. Hope you have fun with your friends! 🙂

Have a fun weekend with your friends! Love British pubs for the atmosphere, even the busy ones.

Enjoy your friends and I hope you get to explore a couple more pubs.

  14. I think this used to be a local when I worked in my first full time job in a hotel at the back of Harvey Nicks….and I am sure you’ll still be enjoying a tipple with TBH for years to come!

Coming up for air, so thought I’d drop by a pub for beer and say hello!

  16. That would be my Nan up there with a gin and tonic lol. Looks like a lovely pub to hang out in after the shops!

Nice pub review, TBM! I loved the anecdote about the two eighty-year-olds 🙂
