The Long Room Bar and Hotel

The Long Room Bar and Hotel, located in Tooting, opened in 2007. Not only do they serve food and drinks, but they have 14 hotel rooms available so if you imbibed too much, why not stay the night. We’ve been to this establishment on three occasions now. Once for drinks and twice for lunch, plus drinks.

This is a large bar and has a little something for everyone. There are televisions for sports fans and a small movie theater in the back where they screen films on Monday. Also, I think they have live music on occasion. In addition to serving beer and cider, they have an extensive cocktail menu and have a happy hour every night from 5-8 p.m.

The first time we had lunch there we were in a hurry. However we thought we had plenty of time for a sit down meal instead of hopping into a fast food joint. Unfortunately our meals took 40 minutes to appear. I ordered Pad Kai Pow, a spicy chicken stir fry, and I inhaled it as soon as the food hit the table. It was one of the better meals I’ve had in a pub in many months. Luckily we still made our appointment but it was a close call. Why is it when you’re in a hurry, things tend to take three times as long as normal?

I found myself craving the stir fry a few weeks later and when we had the chance we went back. This time the food arrived much sooner and was just as tasty.

They have a lot of seating outside and I’m hoping if the rain ever stops and it warms up enough we can take Miles for a visit. Stay tuned. I give this pub 4 out of 5 stars.

  1. I should not have read this… or anything food related… am starving! And about to go out for lunch. But the place doesn’t do stir fries well… what a dilemma you’ve created there for me!

  2. Especially when you’re in a hurry, things take longer. Glad you made your appointment.

  3. It sounds to me that on the day you were in a hurry you got gobsmacked with Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong — will go wrong. Tooting. What a British sounding name for a place! I’m glad you loved the grub, but what’s the story with the suds?

  4. What does my husband say when it takes a long time? “They must be plucking the chicken.”

That dish looks amazing and worth the wait!
I like the look of this pub. very cozy – looks like a great place to watch an Olympic hockey game.
I was in our local one to do just that the other day and had a Rickard’s White. It came with an orange slice. The beer was good, but I am not used to having it with fruit. 🙂

  6. Have you ever had to stay in one of the 14 rooms??? had to ask!

  7. lynnsbooks says:

Apparently that’s ‘sod’s’ law! If you’d had loads of time to spare they would probably have raced in with your food and then whisked your dishes away at the speed of lightening!
    Lynn 😀

That looks like the place to visit… good food, good drink and good company, what a place…

  9. Valentina says:

Happy hours from 5:00 to 8:00, you have one more hour of being happy than we do here in the States.

  10. This was my local in Tooting, I loved about 2 miutes walk away! It was so grotty when I first moved there, then the new owners took it on and things turned around!

  11. Sorry to be late getting here, but I’m sure Miles would love an outing here. I speak for our pups, at least.

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

  12. I missed this as well. I went to look at their website. I thought it was so bad I sent a message 😀

I don’t know who did your website but you need to hire someone else. Seriously. There are far too many typos and the background looks like a brothel.

    • TBM says:

Ha, I didn’t tool around on their site too much. Now I’m curious.

      • I got a reply from them 😀 I’d only read their menu page and that had me tearing my hair out. I looked at the others and found more errors. They asked if I wanted to rebuild their website. I don’t. But I will proof-read better than whoever else did it and suggest different graphical design. I don’t know what made me write!! Maybe I felt sorry for them that they have a site littered with errors.

      • TBM says:

        I’m impressed they replied.

  13. The Guat says:

Dude. I like the fact that they have a movie hangout. I’ve never seen that before. I’ve seen the Big Screen TVs, but not the movie room. That combination alone would definitely get 4 out of 5 🙂 But the long wait for the food does kind of suck, but at least it looked like it was awesome.

    • TBM says:

So far the wait for the food was just that one time I was pushed for time. If it doesn’t keep happening, I would go back on a regular basis. Haven’t gone for a movie yet. Maybe this summer.

  14. I seriously think I’m going to start eating my desk. I’m craving good food after hanging out here for a bit.

Love the decor. All the wood and the leather (or leather-looking) seating is really nice. Also like the color scheme. I could go this route with my home decorating and feel quite comfortable. Minus all the patrons, of course.
